The Sharpsburg Brewers had remained undefeated through the district and sub-state tournaments, qualifying for the state tournament.

Their undefeated run ended in the state tournament, leaving them one game short of quifying for the Southeast regionals.

Game one of the state tournament pitted them against the Stockbridge Phillies. The Brewers trailed the Phillies until the fifth inning when they scored three runs with two outs. Rex Crane and Chad Lyons shared pitching duties as the Brewers went on to win 4-3.

The next game for the Brewers was against the Fairburn Bulls. The Bulls were dominant as their pitcher, Drew Grant, allowed only three Brewers on base. The game was called in the fifth inning due to the mercy rule, as the Brewers lost 16-1.

Sharpsburg got back on track in the next game as the Brewers battled the Locust Grove River Bandits for 11 innings. Chad Lyons pitched eight innings and got eight strikeouts, while Dane Helmly pitched the remaining three innings and got three strikeouts. The game remained tied until the 11th inning, when the Brewers brought all nine players to the plate, scored five runs and won 8-3.

The next game was suposed to be against the Old National Twins. The Twins had been told by thir manager that the game was at noon, when it was actually at 10 a.m. The Brewers were ready to play at 10 a.m. and the umpire called the game at 10:15 a.m. The Brewers won by forfeit and the loss eliminated the Twins from the tournament.

The Brewers' final game of the tournament was against the McDonough White Sox. Andrew Brown started on the mound for Sharpsburg, pitching three innings and giving up two runs on three hits. Brown then moved to the infield due to shoulder pain. Rex Crane pitched the fourth inning and one out in the fifth inning, giving up four runs. Brown came back in to pitch two outs in the fifth inning and the sixth inning. The only run for the Brewers came in the fourth inning when first baseman Danny Dancy hit a home run. The Brewers lost 7-1 and did not qualify for the Southeast Regionals.

But before they could get too down, the players were alerted to a situation that could allow them to continue in the Southeast regionals. Kentucky's team would possibly not be financially able to go to the tournament. The Brewers were then told that Kentucky would be able to make the tournament, therefore ending their season.

The Sharpsburg Brewers had a great season, going undefeated through their regular season, the district tournament and the sub-state tournament. The three teams from Georgia that did qualify for the Southeast regionals are the Gresham Park Vipers, the North Clayton A's and the McDonough White Sox.
