The Southside Theatre Guild had record attendance during the 1999-2000 season.

The company is now preparing to enter its 28th season of entertainment for audiences of all ages. Each season, STG offers at least four plays, which include a drama, a comedy, a musical and a family production.

The drama this year will be the courtroom drama “Twelve Angry Men.” The show will be directed by Michael McClendon, who has decided to add a different perspective to the show by casting both men and women. The show will run Sept. 21 -23, 28 - 30 and Oct. 5 - 7.

The second show of the 2000-2001 season is the fast-paced British comedy “See How They Run.” Audiences will leave the show exhausted from laughter as if they themselves have just run a foot race. Auditions for the show will be at the theater Sept. 25 and 26. The show will run Nov. 16 - 18, 24 - 26, and Nov. 30 - Dec. 2.

STG will follow up farcical comedy with a poignant comedy/drama entitled “On Borrowed Time.” The story deals with a grandfather who tries to cheat death in order to raise his orphaned grandson. Auditions for the show will be Nov. 27 and 28 and performances will be Feb. 1-3, 8-10 and 15-17.

The musical production for STG will be “Shenandoah.” Set during the Civil War, Shenandoah tells the story of a family who try at all costs to stay out of a conflict that they feel is “none of their business,” until their youngest son is mistaken for a Confederate soldier and captured by Union troops. Auditions for the musical will be Feb. 12 and 13 and the show will run April 19-21, 26-28, May 3-5 and 10-12.

The final show of the season will be the acclaimed family classic “You're a Good Man Charlie Brown.” This funny musical based on the comic strip is a tribute to an incredibly talented man, Charles Schultz. Auditions for the show will be April 30 and May 1 and the show will run July 12-15, 19-21 and 26-28.

Southside Theatre Guild is staffed completely by volunteers and all aspects of the production are open to anyone with an interest in live theater.

“We welcome the opportunity to introduce someone new to the exciting world of theater,” said Janet Reed, publicity manager for the theater. “Some of our members have never been on stage, yet they are an integral part of the success and longevity of STG.”

STG keeps its membership dues at a nominal cost; individual membership is $5 and a family membership is $10. Membership entitles a person to participate on various committees.

“Active members vote on best performances and technical achievements for the annual Golden Guilders Award Ceremony,” said Reed. “The ceremony is like STG's version of the Academy Awards, which concludes with a big celebration party that includes dancing and good food.”

The Southside Theatre Guild theater is at 20 W. Campbellton St. in the historic downtown Fairburn district. For information phone 770-969-0956 or visit www.stgplays.com.
