Four members of the McIntosh High School state champion boys soccer team, Nick Brooke, Kyle Gaylor, Chris Rebok and Matt McBride, accepted scholarships to play for North Georgia College and State University.

The boys were first recruited by Brooke's father, Col. Lynton Brooke, who graduated from North Georgia in 1976. The school is the military college of Georgia. The boys will enter the corps's cadet program, which is a challenge for even the non-athletic student.

North Georgia is getting some quality young men and players. Brooke was named a first team All-American and Gaylor also was awarded an academic scholarship to the school. McIntosh Coach Bunky Colvin is perhaps the best appraiser of the talented bounty that North Georgia is about to receive.

“These guys are all very skilled players and two of them are possibly the best backs to ever play at McIntosh,” Colvin said. In fact, the entire conference has been infused with a lot of McIntosh talent. Reinhardt College has signed both Beau Balesky and goalkeeper Fabian Lamy, ensuring that the match between the two schools will be highly competitive and not without its side stories.

“These players have a special blend of dedicaton, wit and talent,” explained North Georgia Head Coach Mark Howarth. “They make a special fit with our program.”

In the final rankings of the spring high school soccer season, McIntosh (19-2) was ranked second in the nation. Starr's Mill's boys (16-2-2) also were nationally ranked, finishing the season in seventh place. The McIntosh girls (20-0-1), also state champions, finished the season ranked seventh antionally, while Starr's Mill's girls (19-1-0) finished tied for 18th in the nation.
