More reflections on why Hooters is causing upheaval

This letter is regarding the articles about Hooters Restaurant coming to Fayetteville, and the opinions of Steve Justice, Rev. Dayne Massey of the Word of Life Family Church in Fayetteville, Bill Murphy of Peachtree City and Dave Hamrick (Editor-at-Large).

First of all, have you not received any opinions opposing Hooters coming to Fayetteville, or have you just not printed them, or maybe I just haven't read them in The Citizen? I did not see any opinions opposing Hooters from coming to Fayetteville in that edition. However, I am going to give you my opinion opposing Hooters from coming to Fayette County.

According to Steve Justice of Tyrone, he stated the majority of residents of Fayette County are opposed to the locating of a Hooters in Fayette County. He also states if we convince our fellow citizens not to patronize the establishment, it would put them out of business.

Well, if the citizens of Fayette County did not patronize the establishment, there would be other citizens from surrounding counties that would patronize the establishment, so, it would not put them out of business.

Furthermore, trying to use the power of government to force our views on the rest of the county and trying to erode the rights of others of self-determination is a bunch of psychological bull.

Whose views are Steve Justice trying to change by using the power of Jesus Christ as an example, and whose rights of self-determination is Steve Justice trying to erode?

In addition to Rev. Dayne Massey's opinion, some of the attitudes of the Christians may be to preserve some kind of Christian utopia. However, that is only Rev. Massey's opinion. Maybe his opinion is to get more sinners to Fayette County so he will have more work to do, but I don't agree with his theory.

Wake up, Rev. Massey, Jesus Christ is everywhere, the Hooter girls don't have to come to Fayetteville to get saved. My prayer is that Rev. Massey visits and converts the Hooter girls outside of our county.

I think Mr. Murray answered his own questions on why the citizens of Fayetteville are opposed to having Hooters in Fayetteville. I think he used the words naive, dumb and a boob.

Furthermore, Dave Hamrick's opinion seemed very much on the fence. The information he gave was very informative, and I agree there needs to be more research done on the issues regarding the Hooter's hurdles and hopefully in favor for the opponents. I also agree that people would not make a stir about other restaurants having waitress wearing hot pants and halter-tops. He apparently has not looked around at some of the other bar and grills in Fayetteville that the bartenders dress that way now.

Finally, the issues regarding Hooters, maybe people are thinking their rights of self-determination are being taken away, and the objection maybe a moral issue, or it maybe we just don't want it stuck in our face.
