Murphy's try at humor fall flat

Billy Murphy's attempt at humor in his “Laugh Lines” about our opposition to Hooters coming to Fayetteville (July 19) was flat, shallow, tasteless, crass, sick, and disappointing to anyone who takes seriously the standard and quality of life of our community. I was extremely disappointed that The Citizen even considered it for publication, let alone printed it. According to his own words he lives in Peachtree City and thus is not even a resident here. If he wants such a restaurant nearby for his bad taste enjoyment that's his serious problem—don't make it ours. I suggest that he organize a group of like-minded (or mindless) Peachtree City citizens and invite Hooters to open up in HIS back yard. We like our neighborhood free of such trash over here. I hope a record number of Fayetteville citizens will stand up and be counted, attending the meeting of the Planning Commission at 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 25. I further hope our commissioners will understand just how serious we are in our opposition to this, and will find a way to keep this camel's nose out from under our tent flap. Didn't they learn anything from The Market? I certainly hope so. Don't let them open the door for anyone else to dump more trash on us, or next we just might have to mobilize to dump them!
