Airways lands in Peachtree City By
JOHN THOMPSON Peachtree City accomplished a major coup last week when an international airline decided to move its corporate headquarters to own. World Airways, whose CEO Hollis Harris is a Peachtree City resident, said it would move its headquarters from just outside Washington to Peachtree City. The company is a charter carrier and plans to locate in a new office building next to the Kedron Shopping Center on Ga. Highway 74. Harris own the property where the office building will be constructed and will also own the office building. The CEO is the former president of Delta Air Lines and has lived in the city for years. The move is scheduled to occur in the first quarter of 2001. Company officials said a large pool of experienced airline personnel in the Atlanta area is one of the reasons its flying south In addition, the company's pilot training is currently conducted in Atlanta and World Airways is negotiating agreements with an Atlanta based company to perform heavy maintenance and engine overhaul work for its fleet of MD-11 aircraft. Officials added the move will save the company approximately $5 million on a net present value basis. These cost savings include costs associated with employee turnover and lower office building lease costs. The lease rate for the new facility will be approximately 18.3% lower than now being paid. Atlanta's Hartsfield International Airport is poised to develop into a major regional cargo hub and the company's recently announced acquisition of additional freighter aircraft support our headquarters being close to both our pilot training and our cargo operations and customers, said Harris. |
