Seals swim for records and prepare for busy summer

The Southside Seals are swimming hard during the summer competition season which will culminate in the Dixie Zone LongCourse Championships July 14-16 and the Georgia Games Championships on July 23. The Seals are looking to break their teamrecord of 12 medals set at last year's Georgia Games.

Several Seals swimmers have posted impressive results in the competitions leading up to these championships.

Karol Welling and Ken Sharpe posted great times and finishes at the Classic City Masters Meet in Athens, GA in early June.

Karol won the 100M backstroke, 200M backstroke and the 200M breaststroke. She also added a second and third place finish in the 100M breastroke and 400M freestyle respectively. She also earned four Top Ten rankings in the Dixie Zone Top Ten Times list for the 1999 Long Course Season. She placed seventh in the 50M backstroke, ninth in the 50M breaststroke and the 400M freestyle, and 10th in the 50M butterfly.

Ken placed second in the 50M freestyle, 50 M butterfly, and 100M freestyle, while finishing fourth in the 50M breaststroke. He also achieved the national qualifying time in the 50M freestyle.

Steve Justice won the 400M freestyle, 100M butterfly, and 200M Individual Medley at the Snellville Masters Meet in mid-June. He also earned five Top 10 rankings in the Dixie Long Top Ten Times List, placing second in the 200M backstroke, third in the 50M backstroke, fourth in the 100M backstroke and the 100M breaststroke, and sixth in the 200M freestyle. Kato Eiji captured three Top Ten rankings himself. He placed fifth in the 100M freestyle, and eighth in the 200M freestyle and 50M freestyle.

The end of the Georgia masters summer season will be our very own “Endless Summer” SCY Meet on 26 August at Kedron Aquatic Center in Peachtree City. Come and support the Seals as they take on other top Georgia teams.
