capture first place, Silverbacks lose By
MICHAEL BOYLAN The Atlanta Silverbacks and the Atlanta classics both played at Dekalb Memorial Stadium on Saturday evening. The Classics got a big win over the first place team in the league and found themselves in the top spot, while the Silverbacks suffered a small setback. The Classics (6-2-1) hosted the North Virgiania Majestics and scored 10 minutes into the game. D. Arrington got the goal which was assisted by Lea Shreve. The Classics held the lead until early in the second half. Vicky Brunt of the Majestics found the back of the Atlanta net and tied the game, forcing an overtime. 18 minutes into the overtime, Joline Charlton scored the golden goal and put the Classics on top of the W-League standings. The Silverbacks (8-6-2) hosted the Hampton Roads Mariners and found themselves down 2-0 at the half. the Mariners scored the two goals within five minutes right before the half. Iggy Moleka scored a goal for the Silverbacks a half an hour into the second half, but it wasn't enough. There will be another doubleheader at Dekalb Memorial Stadium this Saturday. The Atlanta Classics will kick things off with a 4 p.m. match against the Charlotte Eagles. The Silverbacks will follow the Classics match with a 7:30 p.m. game against the Raleigh Capital Express.
