Huddleston response was misunderstanding

Recently, The Citizen published a profile of the candidates seeking the office of judge of Fayette County Magistrate Court. There was a misunderstanding as to the format requested for the information. My response to the questionnaire was not printed because it did not follow the format. I have no quarrel with The Citizen. I, in fact, take full responsibility for the misunderstanding.

However, I would like for the citizens of Fayette County to know that in 1987, I was appointed to the court by then-Chief Superior Court Judge Andrew Whalen from a long list of candidates, and have continued to serve since that time. During the three terms I was elected as your magistrate judge, I have never had a decision reversed by the appeals courts.

I am a native of Fayette County with a B.S. degree from the University of Georgia and a law degree from Woodrow Wilson Law School. I am a combat veteran of World War II, having served with the 34th Infantry Division in Europe, and was awarded the Bronze Star and the European Theater Ribbon with two oak leaf clusters.

I appreciate the support and confidence afforded me by the citizens of Fayette County during the last 13 years as judge of the Magistrate Court and 14 years as a member of the Georgia House of Representatives. I pledge to continue the duties of this office in a fair, honest, impartial and common sense manner to the best of my ability.

I do not plan any significant changes in the operation of the court. The judges and staff continuously receive comments about the friendly, efficient and helpful manner in which the court is operated in comparison to other courts in this area.

Grady L. Huddleston
Magistrate Court Judge
