If you love tennis and feel you haven't been served enough by the action at Wimbledon, head out to the Peachtree City Tennis Center next week for the drkoop.com Women's Professional Championships. The event is a USTA Prudental Securities Circuit event.

The tournament, which starts on Sunday with qualifying, is an annual event at the Tennis Center as well as Georgia's oldest and longest running professional tournament. This year's field will feature a great combination of young up and comers and established veterans from all over the world. Many of the tournament's former champions have risen to the top fifty in the world, representing their countries in Olympic and Federation Cup competitions.

Last year's champion, Alina Jidkova is currently 90th in the world. Each year, the tournament is also a way to raise money for a local cause. Last year saw the largest attendance the tournament has ever had. The David L. Harris Foundation raised $3,500 from ticket sales alone. For 2000, the ticket receipts will go to the Fayette County Council on Domestic Violence. Started in 1987, the FCCDV makes sure that individuals experiencing domestic violence and their families have a network of people to alleviate the problem.

Qualifying starts on Sunday and continues on Monday morning. On Monday evening, the players will get matched up with local celebrities and business owners for a Pro-Am. The main draw action will begin at 10 a.m. on Tuesday. After a break in the afternoon, the main court will feature two main events from 7-10 p.m. The finals of the drkoop.com women's Professional Championships will be held on July 16.

The Peachtree City Tennis Center, the 1999 Ga. Facility of the Year, is excited to bring such a high level of tennis to the community. Each year the quality of the players and the crowds rise. Come out and see over 90 of the finest women's professionals in the world play their hearts out for the drkoop.com title.
