If a community can be defined by how well it comes together when one of its own needs help, then Brooks is a wonderful place to live.

Lee Reed, a Fayette County employee, lost his wife in a hit-and-run accident in April. Reed and his wife had five children together. Now, when times are tough, the town of Brooks is using the first show in its summer concert series to help Reed and his family.

Saturday, July 8, the Alan Goodman Band will perform. Goodman is a 17-year-old Starr's Mill High School student who has been thrilling the region with his piano theatrics and good, old-fashioned rock `n' roll sound for years. Goodman used to play with the band Southpaw, but has recently formed his own band and gone his own way.

The show, which starts at 8 p.m., will be a benefit for the Reed family.

The Brooks Summer Concert Series will be at Brooks Park and will be like any show at the Peachtree City amphitheater or Chastain Park. There are picnic tables and people are ancouraged to bring food and beverages, decorate to their hearts' desire and sit beneath the stars enjoying good music.

The town will offer summer concerts on second Saturdays. Admission is $3 and the show runs from 8-11 p.m. There will be concerts through September.
