Water rationing may come to Fayette

I read the writing, “Water, water everywhere? Not forever,” and I have learned to not waste water. In the Army in World War II we were in training on the Arizona desert halfway between Phoenix and Yuma, training to go to North Africa where the German General Rommell's army was winning everything (we ended up not having to go).

I learned in the desert just how much water is worth. I have seen men be willing to fight for their place in line waiting to get water for their canteen, or in line to get a shower.

I try to take what was known as a “Navy shower” using less water. I brush my teeth while I am waiting for the water to run hot through the water pipe and when I am shaving I run the hot water, cut it off when I am not shaving and run it again to rinse off my razor. I try to cut down on the amount of water coming out of the faucet.

My wife has always had running water and I think she uses too much to rinse out a glass or a coffee cup — she has always used all of the water she wants to use — as I used to do.

I don't know that it will happen but the day may come when water will be rationed, in the Atlanta area, to both homes and businesses.
