Insurance company wins small business of the year

The Fayette County Chamber of Commerce presented its Small Business of the Year Award to Dot Kite State Farm Insurance Agency.

She is a native of Columbus, Ga. and started a small State Farm agency in the Pine Mountain area in 1982. After serving as a district manager for State Farm in the Atlanta area, she then took over an agency in Hapeville and moved it to Fayetteville in 1992.

She is a member of the Metro Kiwanis of Fayetteville, serves as a Partner in Education with East Fayette Elementary School, serves on the Fayette County Development Authority, is a charter member of Main Street and the Fayette Community Hospital Auxiliary, and served as chairman of the chamber Board of Directors in 1998.

Kite also is an alumna of the chamber leadership class.

The Small Business of the Year Award was first given in 1981 and the recipient must own, operate or manage a business or profession. He or she must have demonstrated an unselfish support of the community and participated in a variety of community projects.

Among the gifts the award winner received was a one-year membership at Gold's Gym of Fayette County, a massage or facial from Ici Paris, a gift certificate from China CafÈ, a page ad from the Atlanta Journal Constitution, a $50 savings bond from Regions Bank and a free class from the Small Business Development Center at Clayton College & State University.
