Scheduling
change puts rivals together in baseball tournament By
MICHAEL BOYLAN The game wasn't scheduled to take place but it did. Fayette Gold (the Fayette County High School varsity baseball team) and the Peachtree City Mavericks (the McIntosh High School varsity baseball team) played in the first round of the Southside Shootout held at McIntosh High School last week. Fayette Gold got the better of the Mavericks on Thursday but the two teams are sure to meet again this summer. Fayette Gold got a great outing from pitcher Brian Moss. Moss pitched the entire game, only giving up six hits. Gold got tremendous offensive performances from Michael Harrell, who went 4-for-4, and T.J. Brandenburg, who went 3-for-4 with a two run home run. Cooper Brown and Christian Wahiwe each had a double in the victory. Blake Watson had a double for the Mavericks. Both teams faced East Coweta and Mount Zion the next day. Fayette County Black (the Fayette County JV team) took on Mount Zion and won by a score of 14-4. The game was ended due to the 10 run mercy rule. Weather played tricks on the tournament, delaying some games and postponing others. There will be more details from the Shootout in Friday's Peachtree and Coweta Citizen Review and on the Daily Citizen web site. |
