Last weekend was a tough weekend for the Atlanta Silverbacks.

The team lost a heartbreaker Friday to the number one team in the A-League Western League Conference, the El Paso Patriots, 1-0. They then had trouble returning to Atlanta on time for their Sunday game against the Hampton Roads Mariners and were forced to play Monday evening. The Mariners are the number one team in the Atlantic conference.

Patrick Beech scored a goal in the 70th minute of the game, but the Silverbacks had to settle for yet another tie. Neither team could go ahead in the sudden death overtime periods, leaving the Silverbacks with a record of 5-5-2.

Silverbacks fans will get to see the El Paso Patriots this Saturday. The Patriots have many international players and are the oldest and most experienced team in the league. Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m. at DeKalb Memorial Stadium.

The Atlanta Classics, Atlanta's W-League team, will be on the road this weekend with games against the Charlotte Eagles Friday and the Piedmont Spark Saturday. They will be at home at 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, July 2 against the Jacksonville Jade. Their July 22nd game against the Tampa Bay Extreme will take place at 7:30 p.m. at Pickneyville Park and will be presented by the Norcross Soccer Association.
