LDS church to present musical program in Jonesboro Sunday

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day-Saints (LDS) will present a musical salute to America in Jonesboro this Sunday, June 25, featuring singers from Fayette, Clayton, Spalding, Henry, Lamar, Butts, Upson and Pike counties. The progtram starts at 7 p.m. at the Jonesboro Chapel of the LDS Church on Jodeco Rd.

The musical is entitled, “Land of Promise,” and will offer such patriotic songs as “The Battle Hymn of the Republic,” “ The Star Spangled Banner,” “When Johnny Comes Marching Home,” “Simple Gifts,” and many more.

“The musical selections highlight a narration drawn from diary and journal entries from Americans throughout our country's proud history,” a spokesperson said. “Through these first-person accounts is told the brave story of the founding of the American colonies, the writing of the Declaration of Independence, the fight for freedom in the American Revolution, and the drafting of the Constitution of the United States.”

The program will conclude with a salute to the armed forces. Present and former service men and women will be invited to stand and be honored.
