Helen Reddy is woman and this Friday and Saturday, the Frederick Brown Jr. Amphitheater in Peachtree City will hear her roar.

Reddy was born into a well-known Australian show business family and has been performing since she was a child. She moved to the United States and made her first mark in popular music after signing with Capitol Records.

The first track she recorded was a new song from a relatively unknown musical composer. The song “I Don't Know How To Love Him,” from Andrew Lloyd Webber's musical “Jesus Christ Superstar,” became the first hit for both Reddy and Webber.

Reddy then focused on writing her own music and her song “I Am Woman” became her first number-one record. The song won a Grammy, made Reddy a household name and became an anthem for the feiminist movement.

Reddy followed the success of “I Am Woman” with a slew of top-ten singles including “Leave Me Alone” (Ruby Red Dress), “Angie Baby,” “Delta Dawn” and “You and Me Against The World.” She has recorded dozens of gold and platinum selling albums and has become an international star.

Reddy then began performing in television specials, which have been seen in over 40 countries. She starred in the Disney film “Pete's Dragon” and continues to attract fans of all ages.

It was after her role in “Pete's Dragon” that Reddy returned to the stage. She held starring roles in productions of “Anything Goes,” “Call Me Madam” and “The Mystery of Edwin Drood.”

She is also a huge fan of English playwright and composer Willy Russell and has become the foremost interpreter of his work. She has performed in productions of “Blood Brothers” and in “Shirley Valentine” on both Broadway and in the West End of London.

Though she has received rave reviews for her theatrical work, Reddy still appears in concert. She released the album “Center Stage” in 1998, which is a perfect blend of her distinctive sound and the Broadway hits she has made her own. She has also been active in her community, serving as the Commissioner of Parks and Recreation for the state of California.

Reddy will perform Friday and Saturday night, June 16 and 17 at the Frederick Brown Jr. Amphiheater. The show will begin at 8 p.m. and tickets are $25. Call 770-631-0630 for more information.
