Red Cross looking for local volunteers for Rapid Response team

The Metropolitan Atlanta chapter of the American Red Cross is now recruiting for the next AmeriCorps Rapid Response team.

The 15-person group will provide the community disaster education and response for the local Red Cross for 11 months beginning in August.

According to Kate Edmonds, one of the program's administrators and a former Rapid Responder, the team's mission is to provide both community disaster education and respond to local and national disaster missions.

This si the program's fourth year.

“Not only does the program provide education money, it also affords the Rapid Responders with experience in organizing various projects, developing teaching and public speaking techniques and polishing people skills,” said administrator Deborah Freeman.

Candidates must be at least 18 years old available full-time, including some weekends and evening hours for 11 months, be interested in teaching and training and have at least one year of prior voluntary service.

Participants are paid $470 every two weeks and at the end of the program receive an educational award of $4,725.

Interested persons should submit a resume to Deborah Freeman, Metropolitan Atlanta chapter of the American red Cross, rapid Response Corps, 1955 Monroe Drive, NE, Atlanta, Ga. 30324 or faxed to 404-575-3083.
