Fayette's
libraries offer a summer of reading fun BY JOHN
THOMPSON Ready, set... read. That's the message being spread by Fayette County's three libararies as the summer reading program starts in earnest this week. This year's program is Open a Book... Jump In and offers kids a variety of activities to help them learn the joy of reading during the hot, sticky days of summer. The libararies in Tyrone, Peachtree City and Fayetteville are all offering the summer reading club for kids ages 2 to 16. Kids from 2-11 are given folders to track their time reading up to 50 hours. For 10 hours, the eager readers get a certificate. For 25 hours, kids get a shiny gold seal on the certificate, in addition to prizes donated by local merchants. The libraries also are offering local entertainment on a weekly basis. Tyrone's program is Tuesdays at 1 p.m. and Wednesdays at 10:30 a.m. Peachtree City's programs are Thursday mornings at 9 a.m and 10:30 a.m., while Fayetteville's programs are Tuesdays at 10 a.m. and Wednesdays at 2 p.m. The entertainment at this years' programs includes ventriloquist Cliff Patton, musician Bruce Bernstein, magician Ken Scott and a number of storytellers. All three libraries also are featuring a presentation of Peter and the Wolf by the Fayette Community Theatre. The programs are free and open to the public.
