The Screen on the Green program kicked off last night with a screening of Casablanca. The five-week classic film festival begins at dusk every Tuesday. The program was successful in New York City, Boston and Washington, D.C., where thousands of people gathered at local parks and watched hit films on a 20-feet-high and 48-feet-wide movie screen. The movies this summer will be: Singing in the Rain - June 13 - The grandest musical Hollywood ever produced, starring Gene Kelly, Debbie Reynolds, Donald O'Connor and Cyd Charrise. North by Northwest - June 20 - Hitchcock at the top of his game. Cary Grant and Eva Marie Saint tangle with spies and somehow end up hanging from Mt. Rushmore. Dazzling set pieces, unmatched suspense and sparkling wit and romance. The Adventures of Robin Hood - June 27 - Errol Flynn stars as the dashing man in tights and Olivia de Havilland is a dream, as his true love Maid Marian. Basil Rathbone and Claude Rains provide the villainy in this colorful adventure. The film received an Oscar for the rousing Korngold music.
