Memorial Day is traditionally the kickoff to the summer.

It is a three-day weekend that is full of cookouts and other outdoor festivities. Callaway Gardens is going to join in on the fun this Memorial Day weekend as the grounds will be jammed-packed with water-skiing and wake-boarding like you have never seen before.

The public is invited to frolic on Robin Lake Beach, which opens for the summer that weekend, and watch dozens of world's finest water-ski and wake-board athletes compete.

Competition events include trick, wake-board, slalom, jump and the newest and most death-defying event: ski flying. Traditionally conducted on Robin Lake at Callaway Gardens in Pine Mountain, Ga., this event includes beach-front exhibitors, concessions and other festivities for spectators to enjoy between ski events.

Robin lake Beach is the area's largest man-made, white sand beach. People can enjoy swimming, paddle boats, shuffleboard, miniature golf, table tennis and train rides.

A special treat for ticket holders after Saturday's competition will be a free concert under the stars at Robin Lake Beach by Tamra Comstock. Comstock is an energetic performer who plays a combination of classic rock, country and pop songs, so there is sure to be something for everyone. The Columbus State University String Quartet will perform Sunday at 2:30 and 3:30 p.m.

Other fun areas and activities include the Sibley Horticultural Center, golf courses, a fitness club and a gun club. There are birds of prey shows every day and nature films, for when you want to get out of the sun.

Beach tickets are $9 in advance or $12 at the gate, per adult per day. Admission for children (6-12) is $6 per child per day, and children under 6 are admitted free. Preferred pavilion seating is $25 in advance or $32 at the gate.

A three-day preferred pavilion pass is $60 in advance or $85 at the gate. Purchase advance tickets by 5 p.m. May 23 by calling 1-888-806-2783. Preferred pavilion passes are limited and are available on a first-come basis.
