Metro Rose Society to host annual show Everything will be coming up roses on May 20 and 21 at the 15th annual South Metro Rose Society Rose Show. The show will be held at Hood Avenue Primary School in Fayetteville. 65 Rosarians, as the Rose Society members are known, will be showing their finest examples of home grown roses. There are strict rules for qualifying and for showing. The judging, conducted by certified American Rose Society Judges, is very specific to each category. After the judges have reviewed over 400 exquisite entries, and presented the awards, the show is then open to the public from 1-4 p.m. each day. Members of the society will be on hand to answer your questions about cultivating roses. Rose lovers from beginners to experienced gardeners have the opportunity to talk to members, ask advice about growing roses, and to buy a lovely arrangement cut from the members' gardens. Formed in 1980, The South Metro Rose Society, affiliated with the American Rose Society, boasts members from Henry, Fayette, Clayton, Coweta, Carroll, Douglas and Spalding counties. Members ages range from 11 to 90 years, from novice to expert class. Membership information will be on hand at the show. Call Cindy Dale, Membership Chair, 770-631-3885. Meetings are held the fourth Monday of every month at the Heritage Bank Community Room in Fayetteville at 7:30 p.m. The Rose Society wants to promote the love of roses and provide educational opportunities, says Jack Hanie, South Metro Rose Society President. We welcome all who love roses to attend the show and to join us at our meetings. Carl Brewer, First Vice President, reminds us, The state flower is the Cherokee Rose, and the national flower is also the rose.
