The Southland Chorus is inviting the public Saturday, May 20 to its annual Spring Show.

A portion of the money raised will be donated to help Heartspring, a school for children with severe multiple mental and physical impairments.

Three quartets will join the chorus at Sams Auditorium. The show, titled “Back to the 20th Century,” will feature a variety of tunes by chorus members including “Sam the Old Accordion Man,” “Ten Feet of the Ground,” “Wonderful One,” and “Precious Lord.”

The current Dixie District barbershop champions, Four Voices from Cleveland Tennessee, will be the evening's featured quartet. The Four Voices, who also won the 1996 Collegiate championship, will represent the South at the International Competition in Kansas in July. Four Voices won the MBNA National Collegiate Quartet in 1996, their first year together. According to Southland members, “They are Four Voices with one goal — to be the best and win it all.”

The second guest quartet will be InDEciSIon?, a relatively new quartet from the 1999 International Bronze Medal winning Big Chicken Chorus in Marietta. The quartet has developed a “uniquely appealing style blended with good humor and a professional old fashioned barbershop sound,” according to a spokesman.

New Chips off the Block will round out the show. According to Conrad Harris, Southland Chorus member, “They are a solid group of up-and-comers and will be a big plus to the show.”

The Spring Show is Southland Chorus' largest annual fund-raiser. The nonprofit group currently has 25 active members. Within the chorus are a number of quartets, including the well-known Harmony Brothers and Covenant Four, who sing separately at various times.

The chorus was formed in 1990. According to its literature, it is not necessary to be able to read music or have a trained voice to be a member of the chorus. Although most who have enjoyed being entertained by harmonizing voices of chorus might believe that only well-trained professionals make up the chorus, barbershop is “for the average guy with an average voice, who enjoys singing a song and would like to know more about harmonizing and improving his singing talents.”

Tickets are available at both Gold's Gym locations and at the Fayette Bookshop in Fayetteville. Tickets are $9 for adults and $7 for students and seniors, and also will be available at the door for $12 and $10.

For those who are unable to attend, or for those who would like to enjoy the harmonizing a second night, the group will host a guest night Thursday, May 25 at Partners II Pizza in Peachtree City.

For information phone Conrad Harris at 770-461-5174.
