Notable The Gridiron Club of Northern Michigan University, as well as the 1999 football team and staff, celebrated the accomplishments of the 1999 footall season at their annual football banquet. The banquet is always before the spring football game, which concludes the previous year's football season. Named as the Outstanding Defensive Scout Team Player at this year's event was red shirted freshman Lucas Smith, a 1999 graduate of McIntosh High School. Smith was selected as Fayette County's 1998 High School Defensive Player of the Year by the local sportswriters. The NMU award was voted on by the enitre team as well as coaches. Smith will be moving from the defensive end position to inside linebacker for the 2000 season. Smith also is on the dean's list at NMU with a GPA of 3.82. |
