PTC Flash performs well at a recent meet at Sandy Creek

The Peachtree City Flash Youth Track Team had its invitational recently at Sandy Creek High School.

The team competed against teams from Paulding County, Fayette County, Clayton County, East Point and College Park. The meet was visited by former Olympic Gold Medal winner and former world record holder Ralph Boston.

The Flash got a boost from some very promising runners. Khiry Battle finished the 200-meter in the 12 and under boys division in 29.22 seconds to take first place. He also finished first in the 100-meter with a time of 14.06 seconds. Ric Burrell also performed well in the 12 and under boys division, taking first place in the 800-meter and the running long jump. Battle and Burrell, along with Brandon Witta and Scott Adams, took first place in the 4x100-meter relay.

There were top finishers in several other age divisions. Alexandra Huguelet placed first in the 800-meter in the girls 14 and under age division, while Clair Begstrom placed first in the 1,600-meter. Zack Lackey won the 1,600-meter in the boys 8 and under division, while also capturing first place in the 100-meter and the running long jump. Julie McConlogue captured first in the 1,600 in the girls 8 and under division. Don Foster won the 400-meter for the 15 and under boys.

Other top runners were Kie Fujii placing first in the 400-meter for girls 8 and under. Johnny Edwards captured first in the 100- and 200-meter in the 15 and under boys division. Omari jackson placed first in the 200-meter for 10 and under boys and Molly Walsh placed first in the 100-meter for the 12 and under girls.

In the field events, Edwards won first place in the running long jump, while Deante Battle won first place in the shot put and the high jump for boys 15 and under. In the standing long jump for boys 8 and under, Jarvis washington captured first place. Jennifer Leonard won the shot put for girls 10 and under, while Joy Ferrell placed first in the high jump.

Among second place finishers were Kellie Lynn Anderson, Jessica Weaver, Katie Waldeck, Andy Mendenhall, Justin Jarrell, Rachel Adlington, Rachel Skuggs, Vince Brown, Ryan Darr, Lauren Lopez, Joshua Ferrell and Aljamar Reed. Adams, Khiry and Deante Battle, Bergstrom, Foster, Fujii, Jackson, Laskey, McConlogue, Washington and Witta all had second place finishes as well.

The total number of ribbons awarded to the Peachtree City Flash team was 120.
