Landmark track makes it five for five

The Landmark Christian School boys track team made it five in a row this past weekend.

The boys won their fifth straight Class A state track title at the state championships in Jefferson. The team scored 93 overall points compared to Lovett's 40 points, placing them second.

Landmark had four individual state champions and their 4x400-meter relay team won a state championship as well. Peachtree City's Eric Quint won the pole vault with a height of 13'6”, while Nathan Kosiba, also of Peachtree City, defended his 3,200-meter title with a time of 9:46.9. Kyle Rabbitt also defended his 1,600-meter title in 4:25.81, while sophomore Brady Rockmore won the triple jump with a personal best and a new school record of 44'11.75”. The 4x400-meter relay team of Quint, Sean Hill, Nick Polgardi and Chris Rentz took first place with their best time this year, 3:25.78.

Kosiba also placed second in the 1,600 with a time of 4:29.56, while Rabbitt took third place in a hard fought 800-meter race with 1:59.52. Other team members scoring points were Peachtree City residents Joseph Cawood, placing fourth in the pole vault with a leap of 13 feet, Nick Polgardi, who placed fifth in the 110 high hurdles in 15.24, third in the intermediate hurdles with a personal best of 39.57 and fifth in the discus with a throw of 141'1”.

Eric Sumner, also of Peachtree City, placed sixth in the 800-meter with a time of 2:03.66. Rentz of Fairburn finished strong in the 300 intermediate hurdles and placed second with a personal best of 39.56, while Blake Fertitta of Fayetteville placed third in the 3,200-meter with a time of 10:17.92.

In other state track meet action this weekend, Sandy Creek tied for 10th place at the AAA meet. Stephen Harvey placed first in the pole vault with a height of 13'. Jermaine Harris placed third in the high jump with a jump of 6'6” and Jake Davis placed sixth in the 800-meter with a time of 2:02. Starr's Mill's Reuben Houston placed second in the triple jump with a jump of 48'.

In the AAAA track meet Fayette County High School's Trevor Bowman placed fifth in the 400 with a time of 49:00 and sixth in the 200 with a time of 22:31.
