McIntosh High School shorted on sports coverage

As a student at Mcintosh High School, I am deeply upset by the coverage, or lack thereof, in your newspaper. With the outstanding weekend Mcintosh and Starr's Mill had with the soccer state championships, it was a disgrace to find only pictures of Starr's Mill in your paper.

If I recall correctly, it is the Mcintosh girl's soccer team that is number one in the nation, and if that doesn't warrant a few snapshots at their state championship game, then nothing does.

Throughout the year, your reports, stories, and pictures have been completely one-sided. Starr's Mill, maybe because of the newness of their school or maybe for other reasons, has been covered from head to toe this year, while Mcintosh has been left in the dust.

Obviously, the state of our facility has blinded what should be objective coverage of high school sports in this county. When the community judges the schools like this, they lose the pure innocence of high school sports and make the division between McIntosh and Starr's Mill even larger.

I am not putting down Starr's Mill in any way. It is an excellent high school with many talented athletes and a wonderful faculty who help Starr's Mill students achieve their many accomplishments. However, not being able to look in our county's newspaper and see an article or a picture about our school, while Starr's Mill is plastered all over the front page, is very upsetting.

McIntosh is second in the state of Georgia in academics, and has won numerous region and state titles in athletic competition. McIntosh has a 20-year tradition of excellence in region and state championships, and we are proud to welcome Starr's Mill to that Fayette County tradition.

Still, Fayette County citizens must be extremely spoiled if Mcintosh, a state leader in academic and athletic distinction, is not good enough to be put in the county newspapers. Someone needs to seriously rethink what is going in our newspapers.
