Lightning
reveals new program for younger players The Lightning Soccer Club is unveiling a new program for Under 9 and 10 boys and girls for the 2000-2001 season. The Elite Development Program is designed to be neither all competitive nor all recreational and is open to all U-9 and U-10 players. In the fall, there will be two evenly split teams, one or two development teams and a U-9 team. All teams will train together and each team will have a coach assigned to it. The teams will play 20-25 games per season and will attend two tournaments in the Atlanta area. After the fall season, players will receive an evaluation and will be assigned to teams for the spring season; the U-9 team will stay together. The newly arranged teams will compete in the GYSA Under 10 Premier or Athena Leagues for the spring. The program is open to all U-9 and U-10 players and evaluations will be done for team placement only. No one will be cut from the program. There will be an informal meeting for interested players and parents on May 21 at 5 p.m. at McCurry Park in Fayetteville.
