Southern Crescent celebrates 10 years in the mortgage business

Fayetteville-based Southern Crescent Mortgage reached its 10th Anniversary earlier this year.

The firm was co-founded by Ray Hannah, and the Hannah family assumed sole ownership in 1996.

Hannah, the former president of the South Fulton Chamber of Commerce and the husband of Fairburn Mayor Betty Hannah, has been joined in ownership by his sons Ronald (Ron) Hannah and Robert H. Hannah.

Ray Hannah now serves as board chairman. Ron Hannah, who has worked for the firm since 1991, is now the president, while Robert Hannah, who came on board in 1995, is now vice president/chief financial officer.

The firm's board of directors is composed of Ray, Ron and Robert Hannah, plus Charlene P. Vaughan, who has been with the company since the beginning, is the immediate past president, and currently serves as vice president/construction lending.

Serving on the company's management team, in addition to the directors, is John Fortener, vice president/production.

Ten years ago, the company opened with four employees and now has a staff of 25, including loan officers, administrative staff and support staff.

Southern Crescent Mortgage's team of loan officers includes Ron Hannah, Charlene Vaughan, John Fortener, Genie Compton, Camille Massey, Suzanne Jones, Clay Bennett, Ed Bearden, Tracy Brock, Richard Hendley, Jonnie Brown, Joy Privett, Wanda Brown, Earon James and Darrell Bingham.

The support staff for the company consists of Jenny Perrie, Leslie Gentry, Laura Bean and Kim Bruce, processors; Evalena Jones, closing; Debbie Burton, post closing and shipping; Lynn Giambrone, final documents; Nancy Eisenhut, underwriting; Robert Hannah, computer software, and Denise Hammock, executive secretary.

Southern Crescent Mortgage's headquarters is at 145 West Lanier Ave., across the street from the historic Holliday-Dorsey-Fife House. The mortgage lending company is in the 40-year-old building which was originally occupied by Farmers & Merchants Bank and which underwent renovations early last year.

The company has another office in Stockbridge and a new office in Griffin and is also looking to open locations in Peachtree City and Coweta County.

President Hannah said the company did $55 million in first and second mortgages in 1999.

“We kept pace with 1998, even though the last half of 1999

was a down market for the mortgage industry,” he said.

Southern Crescent Mortgage offers all kinds of conforming and non-conforming loans, including conventional, first time home buyer programs, FHA, VA, Farmers Home loans, second mortgages, lines of credit and construction loans.
