'Tail
Waggin' festival set this weekend The Good Shepherd Humane Society will host its first Tail Waggin' Festival at the Newnan PETsMART Saturday, April 29, noon to 3 p.m. Purpose of the event is to raise awareness of the group's pet adoptions, saturdays at the Newnan PETsMART. The event will include pet contests such as loudest bark, longest tail, best trick and pet and owner look-alikes. Contest winners will receive their choice of a 40-pound bag of dog food or a 20-pound bag of cat food. Demonstrations by personal assistant and police dogs will be featured and a local veterinarian will be on hand to answer questions. There will be food, pet snacks, a raffle, a bake sale and face painting for the kids. In addition, PETsMART employees and friends will staff a car wash during the event, to promote their Just a Buck, Change Their Luck campaign for homeless animals. For $10, customers will get a car wash as well as a new limited edition Just a Buck" t-shirts. It's win-win for everybody, said Kent Berkley, store director. I'm very proud of our employees and their friends, coming in on their day off to donate their time to such a worthy cause. The Good Shepherd Humane Society, a Coweta-based organization, is working to build a no-kill animal shelter. Good Shepherd volunteers currently foster animals in their own homes until a suitable adoptive family can be found. Jeanne West, president of the society, said We have many terrific pets that need good homes, and we're happy to be working with PETsMART to match them up with loving owners.
