Offshoot announces musically ecletic April Stars on the Southern Crescent coffeehouse

In spring time, everything sounds like music.

From birds to buzzing insects, the world is a symphony of sound. It only seems appropriate that Offshoot Productions' next coffeehouse will be a strictly musical affair.

The next Stars on the Southern Crescent coffeehouse will be Saturday, April 29, at National Heights Baptist Church in Fayetteville.

Featured performers include acoustic swing and blues writer/performer Ray Chesna, the Renaissance Festival folk group Stone Soup, and the 9 O'clock Brass with an array of tunes from jazz to Broadway to classical.

Chesna has played in a number of bands over the years, dabbling in blues, folk, rock-a-billy and honky tonk. He has played all over the Atlanta area, in clubs like Eddie's Attic and the Red Light Cafe, and has opened for Jimmie Rogers and Taj Mahal. Chesna will be joined on stage by “Strangers to Fame,” made up of three other accomplished musicians: Tom Wolf on harmonica and guitar, Paul Carpenter on bass, and Jim Tolles on fiddle.

Now in its seventh season, Stars on the Southern Crescent has become an institution on the south side of Atlanta. Many of the best musicians and storytellers in the metro Atlanta area have appeared on the Stars stage.

National Heights Baptist Church is at the intersection of Old Norton Road and Ga. Highway 54.

Doors open at 7:45 p.m., and the show begins at 8:15. Admission is $6 for the general public and $4 for seniors and children under 12. Home-baked desserts and hot and cold drinks will be available.

Patrons who bring their mugs from home receive discounts on beverages and compete for the “most unusual mug” award.
