Chiefs and Panthers season on the diamond ends

The McIntosh Chiefs and the Starr's Mill Panthers baseball teams had their seasons end last week. Despite successful seasons that led both teams to their region playoffs, their bids for a regional and state championship fell short.

McIntosh faced East Coweta in the first round of the region 4-AAAA playoffs. The series was a best of three series and the Indians won the first two games. The Chiefs were held to only two hits in game one, and lost by a score of 3-1.

In game two, McIntosh took an early lead but found themselves deadlocked with East Coweta, 2-2, at the end of the seventh inning. Mcintosh then took a 3-2 lead at the top of the ninth, but gave up two runs at the bottom of the ninth and lost the series. The Chiefs finished the season at 16-11-1 overall and 9-4 in league play.

Starr's Mill was the number two seed in the region 4-AAA playoffs and had to face the seventh seeded Henry County Warhawks. Henry County took the first game by a score of 14-2, but Starr's Mill came back in game two and won by a score of 12-5. Both teams brought a lot of offense to the third game, however.

In game three, Henry County led by a score of 9-3 in the fifth inning. Starr's Mill closed in on the Warhawks and only trailed them by a run, but soon after Henry County pulled ahead again and led 12-8. The Warhawks eventually won by a score of 15-11. Drew Cofty had a grand slam in the loss, while Brad McLaren added a three-run homer.

Though it is always disappointing for a season to end, both the Chiefs and the Panthers played some good ball this year and had a good time doing it.
