Commissioners should be voted out in clean sweep

Re: the article “Bost will qualify, but may not run,” in the April 19 edition. I find it almost unbelievable the amount of unmitigated gall expressed by Commissioner Harold Bost. I question who appointed Bost the all-knowing guru of commission candidates.

Bost is quoted as saying the candidate for Post 3 must “reflect” his “views.” Based on his past performance and the belligerent attitude he has expressed to the public, Bost's views are nothing to heed at all. His main views are to spend millions of tax dollars on a jail that is capable of housing 853 prisoners and an unneeded three-story courthouse. He has no interest in listening to the public's views at all. After helping to create a traffic nightmare, he suddenly expresses that we have a major traffic problem in Fayette County. No kidding! Duh! Bost's solution is to build a bypass around Fayetteville that will cost millions of dollars.

He plans to qualify for the commission but “may” drop out if someone who satisfies his needs runs. Must be nice to have plenty of funds to just waste.

The voters have a chance to start a thorough cleaning of the commission with three seats coming open. Next time, we get to complete the cleaning with the other two seats. Obviously, Bost thinks the voters have forgotten that he is guilty of violating Georgia Code 50-14-1, the open meetings law. Do we want law breakers conducting the county business? Do we want them hiding behind closed doors? Absolutely not!

Please do not forget that all five sitting commissioners violated, by their own admission, this law in March 1999. Also, please do not forget that Solicitor Steve Harris refused to prosecute these commissioners. I am wondering if Harris took an oath to prosecute all who violate the laws.

Georgia code 45-10-1, Code of Ethics for Government Service, states as follows: “Notwithstanding any provisions to the contrary, each member of all boards, commissions, and authorities created by general statute shall: (1) Uphold the Constitution, laws and regulations of the United States, the State of Georgia, and all governments therein and never be a party to their evasion.” It also states that they shall “never engage in other conduct which is unbecoming to a member or which constitutes a breach of public trust.”

We either vote them out or let them continue to do as they please with total disregard for the public's view. Get them out now or suffer the consequences.
