Though Starr's Mill and Fayette County high schools are in different classes until next year, it is always fun when the two schools meet on the athletic field.

The two schools' boys tennis teams met earlier this week in a match-up that had no implications other than bragging rights. Fayette won 4-1, but both teams gave strong performances.

Starr's Mill's number one singles, Dane Davenport, met longtime friend Lee Gilliam of Fayette County in the first match. Davenport lost 10-4 but the match was very entertaining. The Tigers' Mark King defeated the Panthers' number two, John Esterline, 10-4 as well. Sean Ishikara, the much improved number three singles for the Panthers, lost 10-4 to R.J. O'Dell from Fayette County.

Starr's Mill's number one doubles team of Patrick Davis and Chad Newton defeated the Tigers' team of Chris Redmond and Garrett Taylor 10-4. Fayette County won the number two doubles match as Andy Rhodes and Kyle Steven beat Parrish Walton and Dan Mammola, 10-5.

The Panthers ended the season with a 5-1 record in region 4-AAA. Their only loss came to Woodward Academy.

The two teams entered the region tournament as high seeds and play their first round at home. Region finals are scheduled to begin next week and the state finals will begin the following week.
