Talented youth heading to state competition

Two sophomores from Fayette County schools will be heading to the statewide Kiwanis talent competition this Saturday.

Violinist Brandon Wiemann, a sophomore at Starr's Mill, and Katie Holcombe, a sophomore from Fayette County High School, earned the top honors at the Kiwanis Talent Showcase and Art Contest recently at Starr's Mill High School.

Holcombe's pencil sketch entitled “Castle Drawing” earned top honors in the local art contest. Ashley Thomas took second, Benjamin Gregg earned third place and Stephanie Dunn took fourth place in the 10th - 12th grade category. category.

Joseph Sardone earned first place honors in the seventh - ninth grade category followed by Chris Ewing, second; Billy McCray, third; and Shannon McNight, fourth.

In the fourth - sixth grade art contest, Nathan Se took first place. Kalin Puente earned second place, Ai Taniguci placed third and Kody Green placed fourth.

Students earning honors in the first - third grade art category were Roger Sisk, first place; Rennie Richardson, second; Eleanor Gwynne, third; and Megan Theus and Lauren Cash tied for fourth place.

Wiemann took first place in the 10th - 12th grade talent showcase. Ana Martin and Talia Aull earned second place, Walter Holt came in third, John Cooper was fourth and Heather Fodor took fifth place.

Johanna Braddy was the winner in the seventh - ninth grade talent competition, while Jason Cooper earned second place. The Fayette Windwood Quintet (Erin Maxwell, Kendall Kent, Sarah Bradley, Amy Ginn, Scott Switzer) took third place honors. Andrea Preminger came in fourth and Brittney Kuhne took fifth place.

Andrew Zheng took top honors in the fifth - sixth grade category. Mallory Rose Tartar placed second, Rachel Mirabella was third and Jessica Patrylo and Carrie McCray came in fourth.

In the third - fourth grade talent contest, Sarah Holder was the winner; Karla Dietmeyer placed second, Alan Liow took third place and Austin Eure was fourth. Rennie Richardson was named the first winner in the first and second grade category and David Liow took second place.

Judges for the art contest included Scott Silcox, owner of Silcox Studio; Jill Kuhn, technology manager at Peachtree City Library; and Betsy Tyler, Peachtree City public information specialist. The judges for the talent showcase included Julian Campbell of the Southland Chorus, JD of the Magic 96.7 Morning Show, Rick Lindsey of the Southside Theatre Guild; Christian singer and motivator Willie Mae Simpson, and Marina Kolbe, CNN international news correspondent.
