track winning big in Southeast By
MICHAEL BOYLAN Top individual performances combined this last weekend to give Landmark Christian School's boys the first place trophy in the McCallie Invitational track meet in Chattanooga, Tenn. Several Georgia high school teams participated as Landmark's boys took 106 points, beating Westminster, who placed second. The Landmark girls took fifth place. The boys got amazing performances over the weekend. Joseph Cawood placed second in the pole vault with a height of 13 feet. Nick Polgardi placed second in the high hurdles, third in the 300 intermediate hurdles and fourth in the discus. Chris Rentz took first place in the 300 intermediate hurdles, while Hayes Mecure placed fourth. Mecure also took fifth place in the 110 high hurdles and sixth in the discus. Brady Rockmore placed second in the triple jump and fourth in the long jump. Kyle Rabbitt continued his running dominance, winning the 1,600 in a time of 4:30.8 Nathan Kosiba of Peachtree City won the 3,200 with a time of 9:34. The week before, the team participated in the Champion of Champions Invitational Meet in Mobile, Ala. Rabbitt took second place in the 1,600 with a personal best of 4:17.41, while Kosiba took first in the 3,200 with 9:15.42. The time broke both his own school record of 9:32 set last May at the Georgia State Meet as well as the Champion of Champions meet record. Kosiba is currently ranked fourth in the nation in the outdoor 3,200-meter and fourth in the nation in the indoor 3,000-meter. |
