President
Carter's former pastor to speak at River's Edge The former pastor of the Plains Baptist Church where President Jimmy Carter worshipped will preach this Sunday, April 9, at the 10:30 a.m. worship service at River's Edge Community Church in Fayetteville. The Rev. John Simmons moved from Columbus, Ga. to Plains to accept the pastorate not knowing that he was leading, teaching and praying for the man who would later become the president of the United States. Before becoming Carter's pastor, Simmons served in Columbus as pastor to one of Fayetteville's current spiritual leaders, the Rev. Dr. John H. Hatcher, senior pastor at River's Edge. After serving in Plains, Simmons served 15 years working in missions-type settings in northern New York State. The public is invited to attend the service.
