Panthers
and Patriots pound opponents By MICHAEL
BOYLAN Sandy Creek and Starr's Mill's baseball teams faced regional opponents ealrlier this week, and as the kids say, they put the smack down. Sandy Creek, currently 4-1 in the region, faced Mt. Zion, Jonesboro Monday and won 16-0. It took the Patriots only four innings to handle the Bulldogs and they started from the first pitch. Marcus Garrett pitched all four innings and gave up only three hits. The patriots got offense from Rusty Bennett, who hit a three run home run in the first inning, and Chris Mathis who produced two RBI. Sandy Creek faced Eagle's Landing yesterday and will face Jonesboro at 5 p.m. Saturday. Starr's Mill, 3-2 in the region, had a big win Monday, too. The Panthers played Woodward Academy and won 15-4. Steve White pitched four innings, striking out six batters and giving up only four hits. Brandon rogers was hot at the plate for Starr's Mill, going four for four with a homerun and three RBI. The Panthers out-hit the War Eagles 13-6 and have been on a roll since dropping their first two region games. The Panthers played against Forest Park last night. |
