Are you a numismatist? If you are, then you know what that word means. If you are not, go to a doctor's office immediately and find out.

Just kidding. A numismatist is a coin collector and many coin collectors in the state of Georgia will be heading to Dahlonega this weekend for the Georgia Numismatic Association's 2000 Coin Show. The three-day event will have many dealers, collectors and guest speakers sharing their knowledge on their valuable hobby.

The show will feature more than 88 dealers with more than 150 tables full of numismatic material available for sale. There will be authenticators and Sovereign Entity Grading Service grading services present. Friday afternoon, Anne Amerson, an associate editor for the North Georgia Journal, will present “Stories of the Dahlonega Gold Rush and U.S. Mint at Dahlonega.” After her presentation, two dealers specializing in Dahlonega gold coins, Bob Harwell and Al Adams Jr., will answer questions with Amerson.

There will be a barbecue dinner after the presentation Friday for $15 per adult and $7.50 per child. The meal includes chicken or pork barbecue, potato salad, baked beans, Brunswick stew, French bread and peach cobbler. Meal tickets are available at the registration table.

The Georgia Numismatic Association 2000 Coin Show will be at the Northwest Georgia Trade and Convention Center in Dalton, March 31-April 2. The show will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday.

For general inquiries about the show, call David Crenshaw at 770-717-9805.
