Racing action heats up in Senoia

The racing season is in full gear. Senoia Speedway has had hot racing action for the past two weeks and the contests only get more interesting.

McDonough GA's Steve Roberts passed Tyrone's Wayne Hansard with18 laps remaining in Saturday nights 50-lap Alan Vigil South Lake LateModel feature to record his first win of the 2000 season at Senoia Speedway.

Hansard, last weeks winner finished second ahead of McDonough's John Beach, with Dank Chapman, and Fayetteville's Charlie Bagwell rounding out the topfive.

New comer to Senoia Speedway Todd Dobson finished in sixth place, ahead ofSenoia's Chad Caldwell and Scotty Ellis in seventh and eight respectively.

This season's largest record-attending crowd at Senoia Speedway watched onas Steve Roberts in the Conkles Karts and Parts Chevy, was forced to start at the back of the field after being disqualified for having illegal fuel during qualifying. From that starting position Roberts worked his way through traffic to catch and pass Hansard on the 32-lap to take control of the race from that point for the win.

There were three cautions during the feature, the first on lap 16 when Todd Dobson spun his car in turn four, and a second on lap 39 when ChadCaldwell and former Legends driver Scotty Ellis made contact sending themboth spinning between turns three and four. The last and final caution came on lap 41 two laps later when Caldwell spun his Ford between turns three and four in his own oil that had leaked from a valve cover gasket on the engine.

In the Sportsman's division, Newnan's Steve Payton in his Payton Machine Works sponsored Chevy Malibu led from green flag to the checkered flag for his second consecutive win this season. Brooks Ga. native Mike Jenkins finished second with a comfortable lead over the third and fourth place cars of Hampton's Allen Frey and Senoia's Mike Crowley.

Sammy Barge from Hampton had the field cover as he led every lap in the Street Stock division for the second week in a row. Senoia's Mark Lore finished second followed by Newnan's Jim VanRiper, with Ted Willingham in fourth.

Robbie Gober was disqualified for rough driving during the Street Stock Heat race when he intentionally caused a wrecked involving the cars of Blake Griffin and Jason Turner. Although Griffin and Turner were not seriously hurt, the same could not be said for their cars. Both cars were seriously damaged and are doubtful for the season's point's race that starts this coming weekend. The disqualification for Gober also came with a one-week suspension.

Gay Ga.'s Troy French picked up right where he left off last week leading all twenty-five laps of in the Mini Stock feature for his second win in as many weeks. Jonesboro's 'Cary Hamilton finished a close second with Fayetteville's Darrell Carson in third, ahead of Arthur Jordan in fourth.

Senoia's Bubba Pollard, grandson of Senoia Raceway track originator Hence Pollard won his first ever race Saturday at Senoia Speedway. Pollard went flag to flag for the win over last weeks winner Scott Tinsley also of Senoia who finished second that night.

Johnny East also led from starts to finish for his first win of the season in the Pro Legends feature. Vernon Wright finished second with Rusty Lanier in third ahead of Shane Garner and Peter Boyar who rounding out the top five.
