Baseball teams get big region wins, look for momentum

The local high school baseball teams are getting in a few more games before spring break. Last Thursday Sandy Creek took on Henry County, Starr's Mill challenged Morrow and McIntosh played against Carver. All three teams won against these opponents.

Starr's Mill got another great game from Joe Mahfood. he pitched the full game against Morrow, giving up two hits and striking out seven. He also drove in both runs for the Panthers, as they went on to win by a score of 2-1. Starr's Mill will meet regional opponent Forest Park today at 4:30 p.m.

Sandy Creek got a great game out of one of their pitchers, Tim Lavoie. Lavoie pitched seven innings, gave up two hits and struck out four batters. The Patriots beat Henry County by a score of 7-2, thanks to offense from everybody on the team. Gavin Bourgeois and Josh Collins each had two RBIs, while Rusty Bennett and Matt Rast produced some big hits to get on base.

McIntosh faced Carver on Thursday and won by a score of 9-0. Pitcher Mike Walliser pitched five innings, gave up three hits and struck out seven batters. Catcher Jason kemmerer produced a good deal of offense for the Chiefs, going 2 for 2 at the plate and driving in three RBIs.

The Chiefs faced Stockbridge, another region opponent, on Saturday and lost by a score of 6-4. They bounced back quickly though, winning both games of a double header aginst Forest park. The Chiefs took the first game by a score of 14-4 and then won the second game 14-13. McIntosh will play at Lovejoy today at 7 p.m. and will host Griffin on Friday at 5:30 p.m.
