Tigers
win and stay in the hunt By
MICHAEL BOYLAN The Fayette County boys played their final home game of the season on Friday night, which was also designated as senior night. The Tigers hosted LaGrange and started 9 of their 10 seniors (Normer Adams was out of the country) and won by a score of 3-0. Fayette County struck quickly as Andrew Doggendorf scored in the first minute and a half of the game. Fayette County kept up the pressure, recording 15 shots and four corner kicks in the first half. The Tigers opened up the second half with another quick goal, this time from Kenn Adams. Later on in the second half, JB Wood came out from goal and scored a goal with 17 minutes left. Fayette County recorded 20 shots and four corner kicks in the second half. LaGrange did not have a shot on goal the entire evening. The Tigers now must win their remaining two games for a chance to make the playoffs. Fayette County traveled for a key game against Griffin and will travel to Newnan on Thursday night for a game at 7:30 p.m. In other action on Friday night, Starr's Mill's boys defeated Woodward Academy, 3-0 and Newnan beat East Coweta, 2-0. Newnan and Fayette County will be fighting for a playoff spot as the season winds down. The McIntosh boys have been off since defeating Fayette County. They will be back in action this weekend when they host the McIntosh Classic. The Classic will run from March 30-April 1 and will feature teams from Georgia, Oklahoma and Tennessee. The Starr's Mill Panthers will travel to Lovejoy on Friday night for a game at 8 p.m. On the girls side, McIntosh continued their unbeaten season by hammering Griffin, 10-1, Fayette County defeated Upson-Lee by a score of 4-1 and Starr's Mill defeated Woodward Academy, 3-0. Kacy Murray had two goals in the Lady Panthers win. The Lady panthers will host Riverwood on Thursday night at 7:30 p.m. The Lady Chiefs will host Greensboro Day School on Thursday night at 6 p.m. and then will be off until April 7. |
