teams win big games Time is flying and spring has sprung just look at the cars encased in pollen. The high school athletic seasons are marching towards the playoffs and teams all over the state are fighting for position. This past Tuesday saw the McIntosh Chiefs beat their rivals, the Fayette County Tigers, 3-0. The Chiefs got goals from Travis Britt, Beau Balesky, who is now the leading goal scorer in school history, and Matt Clements. Sandy Creek's boys fell to Northgate 2-1, while East Coweta hammered LaGrange, 8-2. On the girls' side, Starr's Mill came back from their loss to the McIntosh Lady Chiefs to beat their opponent in last year's state final, Marist, 2-0. Janet Burke and Kacy Murray were the goal scorers and junior Alison Graham did not play due to injury. The Sandy Creek Lady Patriots played Northgate Tuesday and lost 7-3. In boys soccer action this Friday, Sandy Creek hosts Henry County at 7 p.m., Starr's Mill takes on Woodward Academy at 7:30 p.m., Fayette County hosts LaGrange and East Coweta hosts Newnan at 8 p.m. McIntosh is off until next Thursday when the McIntosh Classic, a three day soccer tournament, begins. For the girls, Starr's Mill faces Woodward Academy at 6 p.m., while McIntosh hosts the Griffin Lady Bears. Fayette County's Lady Tigers will host Upson-Lee at 8 p.m. and Sandy Creek is off until Tuesday when they will travel to Riverdale. In baseball this week, Sandy Creek had a nine-hit, 11-run fourth inning the other night against Riverdale. The Patriots won 11-1 and are off until Monday when they travel to play Mt. Zion-Jonesboro at 5:30 p.m. Starr's Mill also got its offense in gear this week and beat Henry County 13-5. Jack Jones had a three-run home run in the win. The Panthers are off until Tuesday when they travel to play Northgate at 4:30 p.m. This Friday will see Fayette County at Griffin at 5:30 p.m. and McIntosh at Stockbridge at 7 p.m. McIntosh will also play Saturday when they host Forest park at 2 p.m. |
