Woodworking
Show
returns to Atlanta By MICHAEL BOYLAN Whether you are a beginning woodworker or you are professional, when the Woodworking Show returns to Atlanta this weekend all will have an opportunity to take their work to another level. The Atlanta Woodworking Show, at the Gwinnett Civic Center, will feature tools at discount prices, seminars from some of the best in the business, and displays from more than 100 manufacturers from all over the United States. Many of our attendees spend more than one day, so they can visit the exhibits several times, see tools and machinery in operation and learn from factory representatives, said show director Irene Devine. They can purchase everything right there on-site at special show prices and take it home to use in their shops that evening. In depth three-hour seminars will be offered Friday and Saturday, focusing on cabinet making, picture framing and finishing basics. The cost of each seminar is $55. Advance registration includes admission to the show and can be charged at 1-800-826-8257. Two of the featured seminar speakers, Stuart Altschuler and Marc Adams, will present a total of 27 mini-seminars on the show floor. Lasting 15-30 minutes, each seminar will discuss a variety of woodworking techniques. Numerous local organizations also will demonstrate their crafts and share techniques. Some featured organizations will be the Atlanta Area Woodcarvers and the Woodworkers Guild of America. Local crafters also will offer 10 free workshops, including topics such as building an adirondack chair and making wooden toys. Admission is $8 for adults; children under 12 admitted free. Tickets will be sold at the door. The show will run noon to 7 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. For information visit the show web site, www.thewoodshows.com.
