FCHS
ready to rock 'Round the Clock By MICHAEL
BOYLAN
The Fayette County Select Chorus, under the direction of Janice Folsom, will present its 23rd annual Select Chorus Variety Show this Thursday though Sunday. Beginning in the early morning hours with I've Got the Sun in the Morning and dancing late into the evening with The Joint is Jumpin' the chorus sings from morning to night without slowing down. The Select Chorus is an award-winning auditioned group of FCHS juniors and seniors. The chorus has gained widespread recognition throughout the state, performing at events such as the Georgia Music Educators Association convention in Savannah and at St. Patrick's Cathedral in New York City. This year, the chorus will travel to Europe, with performances scheduled in England and France. The variety show is company-developed, meaning that the students spend months preparing the show each year. Students from the art department and drama department contribute to the show's success by providing technical support and backdrop designs. Choral director Janice Folsom is the driving force behind the show each year. She was recognized as Teacher of the Year at FCHS in 1990 and was one of three finalists last year for the GMEA Teacher Hall of Fame. The Select Chorus is a musically talented bunch, but they are also very well rounded. This year's group includes members of the football team and wrestling team, members of the National Honor Society, and members of band and drama, among others. 'Round the Clock will be performed March 23, 24 and 25 at 7:30 p.m. and March 26 at 3 p.m. at Sams Auditorium in Fayetteville. Tickets are $5 for students, $6 for adults and $8 at the door. Tickets may be purchased in advance from any Select Chorus member or by phoning 770-460-3540.
