Mayor
shows humility in apologizing, has point about replies I would appreciate publication of the enclosed e-mail I sent to Mayor Lenox. You have my support in fighting the frivolous lawsuit by Mr Webb. I intend also to support Mr. Steve Brown monetarily and hope other citizens will help out as well. Dear Mayor Lenox, I realize I have been critical of your past performance as mayor, but I want you to know that your performance at [the March 16] council meeting was outstanding. You exhibited a high degree of fairness and objectivity. The fact that you apologized for not cutting off the presentation by the City Attorney at the previous meeting shows humility on your part. I was also glad to hear the apology by the City Attorney. Should the lawsuit against Steve Brown prove to be without foundation, and should the ethics violation against Mr. Webb prove to be valid, then I would hope the city council take appropriate action to terminate the contract with that law firm and hire a new city attorney. I was also impressed by the fact that you and Mr. Brooks felt there should be more discussion on the amendment proposed by Councilman Tennant. There is merit in what you said about maintaining proper control during council meetings. It is not a forum for individuals to harangue other citizens, city employees or elected officials; however, I do believe that if disparaging remarks are made about a given individual by anyone during a council meeting that individual should have the opportunity to be heard. To do otherwise is a gross injustice. I look forward to attending the retreat where this amendment will be discussed. Richard Downing
