Region
plays starts for local baseball teams By MICHAEL
BOYLAN The high school baseball teams started playing their regional schedule this week with some mixed results for the teams. McIntosh beat fourth ranked Newnan Monday 3-1. Bryan Digby pitched five innings for the Chiefs, allowing one hit, striking out eight and walking four. The Chiefs got a run early and went into the final inning leading 1-0. Newnan tied it and McIntosh got two runs in the bottom of the inning to secure the win. The Chiefs are currently 6-3-1 and will play at LaGrange tonight at 6 p.m. Fayette County Tigers' 10-game winning streak came to an end as they lost to the LaGrange Grangers, 6-3. LaGrange held a 6-1 lead going into the seventh inning and it looked as though Fayette County would come charging back. The Tigers scored two runs and had the bases loaded, ready to take the lead, but Lee Roberson struck out and ended the game. The Tigers hosted Carver-Columbus Wednesday evening. Starr's Mill got hammered by Lovejoy Tuesday 16-1, but the team did defeat fourth ranked Newnan last Friday. Joe Mahfood threw a three hitter and drove in four runs as Starr's Mill won 6-2. Arlando Hinton was responsible for the Panthers' other two RBI as Starr's Mill scored three runs in the third and fifth innings. Sandy Creek rallied from a four-run deficit to tie Banneker Monday night, but they couldn't stop nature, as the game, which was tied 7-7 at the time, was called due to darkness. The Patriots will play at Jones County Friday at 7 p.m. |
