Season
unfolds, teams play tough By MICHAEL
BOYLAN Just when you thought high school soccer in the area had its share of stories, more pop up. The Newnan Lady Cougars faced Lovejoy the other night and won 10-0. Sister Edge and Lanie Scott both had their first career hat tricks against Lovejoy, while captain Amanda Morton added two. Heidi Henkes and Katie Owens each added a goal for Newnan. The Lady Cougars scored five goals in each half in the win, while outshooting Lovejoy, 27-1. The win places the team in fourth place in region 4-AAAA. Newnan will host South Cobb at 7 tonight. The Fayette County girls lost to Griffin, 1-0 Tuesday night, placing the team at 5-5 on the year. The Lady Tigers will host Houston County at 6:30 tonight. Sandy Creek's girls faced sixth ranked Oconee County Tuesday night and lost 12-1. The Lady Patriots are 2-7-1 on the season and will host Jonesboro Monday at 7 p.m. The Sandy Creek boys (2-4-1) faced Forest Park earlier this week and will host Jonesboro at 5 p.m. today. The Fayette County boys (6-3-1) met Stockbridge Tuesday night. The game started with Fayette County applying all the pressure, but Stockbridge got on the scoreboard first. The Tigers tied the game with two minutes remaining in the first half and controlled much of the remainder of the game, despite being outshot 18-16. Normer Adams, Kenny Adams, Mark Huelsbeck and Phillip McFarlin each scored a goal in their 4-1 victory. The Tigers will host McIntosh next Tuesday at 7 p.m., while the East Coweta boys will host Stockbridge tonight at 8. The McIntosh boys defeated Wheeler 3-0 Tuesday night, in preparation for their game Saturday against Starr's Mill. McIntosh is currently 9-0 and ranked seventh in AAAA, while Starr's Mill is 5-2-2 and ranked seventh in AAA. McIntosh's girls met East Coweta Wednesday night and will face the top ranked team in AAA, the Starr's Mill Lady Panthers, Saturday evening. The Lady Indians will play at Grifin Monday at 7:30 p.m. |
