Senoia Speedway will open this Saturday night for its 31st season of racing and some renovations have been made to make the 2000 season more comfortable and enjoyable for the fans.

Hence Pollard built the dirt track in 1969. He owned the Speedway until 1981, when his son Sonny and his grandson Bubba continued the family racing tradition. The dirt track was covered in asphalt in 1989 and the speedway has enjoyed a surge in popularity as auto racing has become the fastest growing sport in the nation.

During the off season, Floyd S. Lee (Smitty) worked on the track and refurbished and renovated several areas. There is now a new sound system that goes completely around the track, as well as expanded trackside parking and refurbished grandstands, concession areas and rest areas.

The Speedway will feature short track racing in each of the following classes: Late Model, Sportsman, Street, Modified Mini, and all four divisions of Legends racing. The speedway's web site, www.senoiaspeedway.com, will feature points standings and individual stats for all the racers in all of the classes, which should enhance the competition and fan excitement.

The speedway is open every Saturday. The pit gates open at 4 p.m., while the grandstands open at 5 p.m. Racing begins at 7 p.m. For information, call 770-599-6161.

Senoia Speedway is on Ga. Highway 16, heading east toward Turin. There is a sign on the left of the road.

The speedway is 15 minutes from Interstate 85.
