Griffin
leads Chargers to championship By MICHAEL
BOYLAN Though the NCAA mens and womens tournaments do not begin until tomorrow and Friday, respectively, one group is already home enjoying the championship feeling. Atlanta Christian College won the National Christian College Athletic Association championship recently, thanks in part to the play of the Chargers' leading scorer, Carlton Griffin. Griffin is a Fayetteville resident who has been a starter and named to the All-Region team during his three years at Atlanta Christian College. For the past two years, Griffin, a forward and a center for the team, has been named an All-American and has been named to the All-Tournament team. If Griffin continues his current pace this year he averaged 28 points and 15 rebounds a game he should become Atlanta Christian College's all time leading scorer. Carlton has the ability to carry the team on his shoulders, says Coach Joe Griffin. But he is also a very unselfish team player. Carlton holds ACC school records for most points in a season (989), most points in a game (50) and most rebounds in a game (23). Though he is talented on the court, he is also very gifted in the classroom. A junior majoring in business, Griffin was recently named NCCAA Division 2 Student Athlete of the Week. |
